J - a 2nd thanks for the 2B info. I am going to drop you a line - half of our group want to rent it for next Feb - your info might change their minds.

Skeeters must have been bad! Glad the diving was good.

Check out https://www.olgasfancy.com/ in French Town. It is walkable to the French Town restaurants and the French Town Brewery (tastings on Fridays).

Cheers, RickG
Rick beat me to it. Olga's Fancy is on our list for the next STT stayover.

Re: Full face snorkel masks? ISO feedback and recommendation

We have two and like them. Pros - much larger field of vision more comfortable ease of use no fogging no lip irritation Cons - looks goofy (but I am old enough not to care) Good for surface swimming only As mentioned, a tribord is not for someone who wants to dive under the water. I don't dive under...

Re: Preschooler in Paradise

I read your report over on TA and it warmed my heart. We have such wonderful family memories of going to STJ with my parents when our son was little. Like your granddaughter, our son was a trooper as it related to travelling. While every kid is different, I think the success of a trip with a young o...

Re: Wondering why no solar?

We had a nice conversation with a solar "guy" while waiting for our to-go order at Sam & Jack's. He said he has more work than he can handle.

In addition to the initial costs, I think the battery bank needs replacing every so many years.

Re: On island with 3-year-old in July - ideas?

I agree with RickG, what a delight! We started taking our son at 4 months old, sometimes twice a year, and he is now 12 yo so we have experienced every stage on STJ. My random thoughts – Yes to a well-fitting, comfortable PDF. I would also take along a really fun float for her, a flamingo, a fish, e...

Re: Working on a trip report.

Please tell me more about your trip with Fly Away. We are looking to do a boat day within USVI waters. I think our son would get a kick out of the pizza boat. Did you visit Water Island? Any beaches on STT? Snorkeling?

Re: Trip Planning

We are going in February. In fact, I hope to secure an alternative rental today. We went round and round about a different destination but kept coming back to STJ in its altered state. We know how to behave ourselves and won't be a burden or strain to anyone. I am going to reach out to the Community...

We booked a February 2018 back in August. I will be looking for a replacement villa as soon as the villa companies are open for business again.

Re: One night stay in St Thomas

Funny, I was just shopping for a one night stay over on STT for our February trip. In the past, we stayed at both the Green Iguana and the Marriott (main hotel, not the Morningstar units on the beach). The Green Iguana is very clean and as mentioned, walking distance to downtown. For the price, it w...

Re: Commercial Maho Bay

I have thoughts similar to equinneannie's, who would buy this? Lets set aside the C & Rs for a second - I can't think of a business that could return enough profit to support the costs required to purchase, develop and construct anything permitted by zoning. Back to the restrictions. I wonder if...

Re: 1:05 Layover in Miami?

Take the longer layover. Especially with the size of your group. Sometimes we arrive and depart from gates that are next to each other. Other times we have to take the SkyTrain to a more distant gate. There are a good variety of restaurants and shops in the Miami airport. We connected in MIA in Feb...

Re: Where do St. John lovers go when they can't go to St. Jo

We have taken multi-generational trips to Mexico (Xcaret, Playa Car and Cozumel) and Provo, T & C. The nicer all-inclusives in Mexico can be a great value. There is a whole "style" to an AI vacation that some people love (my parents) and others tolerate (me and hubby) but there is typi...

Re: Favorite Change

I will go with Zozo's at Caneel. At first, I thought it was a terrible idea. The Equator was a sentimental favorite from our early STJ years but in hindsight, it needed to new life. While we loved the old Zozo's, the option of going down to the Beach Terrace for a sunset drink and then up to Zozo's ...
