Re: Trip summary March 18th-29th and long trip blog

Thank you for taking the time to write this trip report and post photos. We loved reading about your St John adventures and it was nice to get an update on the recovery. Very sad to see pics of the destruction and so sorry to hear about damage to coral in shallow areas. I wondered how those tents fo...

Re: Just back from STT and STJ - 2/28-3/5

Thanks for taking the time to post. It was great to hear first hand from a long time visitor how things are going.
Did you hear anything about Sogos? We loved their food and always enjoyed talking to the couple that owned it.
So glad to hear Steve and Leslie are back on their beloved island.

Sogos?

I've been reading every shred of info on St John, and love hearing about the little victories in the restoration. I don't recall reading about Sogos, but perhaps I missed it. We ate there several times on each trip and loved their West Indian food. We always enjoyed chatting with the owners. She is ...

We were talking about this amazing tree a few weeks ago and wondered if it survived. Thank you for posting this!

Update on Refund from AA

In case others are in this same situation, I wanted to provide an update on getting a refund for our non-refundable AA tickets. Our trip to the islands was supposed to start yesterday :( We felt it was too soon to go on the trip and wanted to cancel our flights. We bought our tickets in March 2016, ...

Update from Caneel Bay

I received an email from Caneel titled "Caneel Bay Resort Ownership Statement". I'm sure others who have stayed there received the same email. We thank you for the overwhelming support we have received from so many of you in the past few weeks. We are heartbroken by the devastation caused ...

Relief Donations - Springfield VA

Hi everyone, A local restaurant near us, Kilroys in Springfield, VA, is collecting relief items for the USVI through Oct 7 in partnership with VIStrong. My understanding is the items will be combined with items from other collection sites in our area, shipped to the USVI and distributed by folks fro...

STT airport closure & planning ahead

I realize that this question/issue is absolutely insignificant compared to what residents are dealing with in the islands. I thought I would ask anyway. (Please don't take offense! We are making contributions to VIstrong and pursuing other ways to help.) I am looking for some place online that shows...

Helicopter videos of StJ & BVIs

There are several videos on Youtube under the name Jon Adams titled 9/10/17 Aerial Footage of "xyz". The videos are titled with the area of StJ that is covered. The coverage is just shocking and heart-breaking with so much damage. Its hard to take it in, especially considering the impact o...

Re: April

A wise person on this forum who lives on the island (Pia) has said that every year there is usually a week in April or a week in May when its rainy and dreary. I read recently that some of the BVIs had a torrential rain storm on May 10 this year which caused damage to various places. I wondered if S...

Re: STJ Trip Report Part 1: Ya gotta roll with it…

Wow, what a day! Thanks for sharing. It brought back painful memories of our trip to the BVIs last Oct. Flights on AA totally messed up multiple times - pilot didn't show up (that was a new one for us), broken planes, delays resulting in missed connections, on and on. Instead of getting to STT at 2p...

Seems like a long time ago

My husband and I were talking about the Caribbean islands we want to visit and our plans for a trip to the BVIs this year. He loves Peter Island and was talking about what we'll do while there. me: One of these days, I really want to go back to St John. husband: We were just there last year in May. ...

Re: Peter Bay Next month, suggestions

I was thinking back to when we took newbies for the first time and the things they enjoyed. - Drive out to East End and stop to look at the views out to Tortola. Then go back to Coral Bay and go to Shipwreck for lunch. We always enjoy the view out to the water, the ambiance and the food. - After 6 v...

Re: Kachi Ra in Bethany

Hi crickett - How fun to be able to stay 4 weeks or more. We've never stayed at Kachi Ra, but I found a few mentions of it on-line, so I wanted to share them, in case you hadn't already seen them. - Someone called it a "great, clean place". https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g147409-i43...

Re: Update on grocery prices

Thanks for posting this, Kevin. Never noticed the sale circular, but will definitely check it out on our next trip. We found that Sun evening seems to be the worst day to shop at Starfish for produce. Last year when we went mid-week, we found much fresher and more variety of items. I wonder if they ...
