Re: Group turned to 4 couples! VILLA HELP PLEASE!

My 2cents, 8 adults arriving, departing or even going to the beach at the same time = 3 vehicles. 4 adults + luggage for 4 is a Jeep wrangler overload even if it is only two carry on bags each. I think with 4 groups you may also want to be headed 3 different ways some days. Just my thought. 3 vehicl...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations

I see that the 12.5% tax will be on the full amount of your rental including cleaning charges energy surcharges etc. Will the service fee incurred by some of the management companies also be taxed at the same rate? ie: the 5% fee that Caribbean Villas charges.

Re: be aware of your surroundings

Donna, it has been a week since I read the article but I thought the first incident occurred in the Gallows Point area or just past that. While it might not be considered downtown, it is an area frequented by tourists as there are numerous places to stay in the area. It is not a remote place or out ...

Re: Eating tips for San Francisco and Chicago

In our visits to San Francisco we have eaten at a couple of Fisherman Wharf restaurants and have found nothing exceptional. Most cater to the passing tourist and you may find yourself being rushed. If you find yourself in the Outer Richmond part of town I will suggest a couple of places; The Shangha...

See if this works.
This pair/group sounds brazen. Lets hope they are caught quickly before anyone is hurt.

Re: Virgin Islands Hotel Tax likely to increase

All very true examples and statistics if you were spending $10,000 for a couple in a villa. Not a lot of things anywhere that you can still buy at 2009 prices are there? Hmmm..... Gasoline, my house, my property taxes......... When you talk about tax rates you are not discussing 2010 prices, the ta...

Re: Virgin Islands Hotel Tax likely to increase

Sure, only $25. That is unless you are looking at the big picture. The tax used to be 8% just 5 years ago. The hotel/room tax would have been $800 for a $10,000 villa bill. Currently the tax is $1000. @ 12.5% the tax will be $1250. To me that adds up to an extra $450 per week or an increase of great...

Re: Virgin Islands Hotel Tax likely to increase

On second thought, if these issues cause visitors to go elsewhere thus causing a slowdown on the villa rentals, thus causing a slowdown in the building of new villas for rentals, thus causing a drop in demand for jeeps and other expenses that villa renters require, perhaps the island could settle ba...

Re: Virgin Islands Hotel Tax likely to increase

Between the increased costs to visit, this impending tax increase on top of an already high tax rate, coupled with increase in crime and the apparent disregard for visitors issues by the police and govenment, it is becoming obvious that the USVI would rather that I only pass through on my way to the...

Re: St john needs a _____

"demand for more of everything 'just like at home'." Something I will never understand. Traveling to other places but expecting everything to be just like home. We travel to see places that are different to experience a lifestyle that is different. I don't want or expect A/C or fine dining...

"Funny, you call tell the "live here" and the "visit here" folks by the things they think St. John needs."
I think it's "funny" that you read the replies and came to that conclusion.
